U=U: A Message of Hope, Health, and Community

Introducing The Raven Collective's new U=U campaign in partnership with the California Rural Indian Health Board

For many years, HIV conversations have been shaped by fear, misinformation, and stigma. But science—and the experiences of people living with HIV—have given us a message of hope:

Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U).

This simple but powerful message means that people living with HIV who take their medication as prescribed and achieve an undetectable viral load cannot sexually transmit HIV to their partners. U=U is backed by decades of research and embraced by health organizations around the world.

Yet despite this evidence, many people are still unaware of what U=U means—or continue to experience stigma rooted in outdated information.

That's why The Raven Collective, in partnership with the California Rural Indian Health Board (CRIHB), is proud to launch a new Indigenous-centered U=U education campaign designed specifically for Tribal and Urban Indian communities across California.

Three Audiences. One Message.

Because everyone has a role to play in ending HIV stigma, the campaign includes resources tailored for three different audiences.

For People Living with HIV: You Are More Than Your Diagnosis

Living with HIV today is different than it was decades ago. With treatment, people living with HIV can live long, healthy lives, have relationships, build families, and know that they cannot pass HIV to their sexual partners when they are undetectable.

Campaign resources for people living with HIV focus on:

  • Understanding U=U and viral suppression

  • Supporting medication adherence and self-care

  • Reinforcing dignity, hope, and resilience

  • Celebrating the lives and strengths of Native people living with HIV

For Communities: Breaking Stigma Through Knowledge

Stigma hurts individuals, families, and communities. It creates barriers to testing, treatment, and support.

By learning the facts about HIV and U=U, communities can help replace fear with understanding and judgment with compassion.

Community campaign messages emphasize:

  • HIV facts and myth-busting

  • The science behind U=U

  • Supporting loved ones living with HIV

  • Creating communities where everyone feels respected and valued

For Providers: Leading with Science and Compassion

Healthcare providers are trusted voices in our communities. Yet studies show that many patients are never told about U=U.

Provider resources are designed to support clinicians, nurses, community health representatives, case managers, and outreach workers with:

  • Current U=U science and evidence

  • Patient-centered communication strategies

  • Approaches to reducing stigma in healthcare settings

  • Tools that support culturally responsive HIV care

Why U=U Matters

U=U is more than a public health message.

It is a message about dignity.

It is a message about relationships.

It is a message about reclaiming narratives that have too often been shaped by fear.

When people have access to treatment, trusted information, and supportive communities, everyone benefits.

At The Raven Collective, we believe health is an expression of sovereignty. Sharing knowledge, strengthening relationships, and supporting one another are all part of creating thriving communities.

Together, we can ensure that Native communities have access to the information, care, and support needed to end HIV stigma and promote wellness for future generations.

Coming Soon: Educational materials, social media resources, provider tools, and community messages will be available through the California Rural Indian Health Board.

Because knowledge is medicine—and everyone deserves to know that Undetectable = Untransmittable.
